For many starting down the road to entrepreneurship, the most difficult adjustment will be accepting complete responsibility for their business. For some, working without having to be directed or managed, will be nearly impossible. One of the most difficult obstacles to working at home will be "home itself", and the comfort and distractions that come with it.
Many people dream of a job at which they can work in their pajamas, get up and grab some food, catch some TV and so on, but none of that would be a wise choice. Though you don't need to wear a suit jacket, dressing for work would be a better choice. Setting a schedule and sticking to it as you would at any business will be necessary. These things will give you the attitude and focus that will be required.
As an entrepreneur, prepare to work harder and longer than you ever have before. This will be with little or no income to start with. Be ready to want to run away from the house because of the distractions. Prepare yourself to work sixty to eighty hour weeks building that "home" business. Decisions and problems will become your own, there will be no one else to take the heat for any crisis that may arise.
Successful business owners become accustomed to performing those tasks that are difficult and necessary. The ones that fail are more interested in those that are fun and easy. Successful entrepreneurs are more concerned with pleasing results, the one that fail are more concerned with pleasing methods.
Establish an attitude of always being "self employed", no matter who signs the checks. Empower yourself at work and in any situation that may arise, to make decisions, and accept responsibility. These are the hallmarks of a true entrepreneur, and the skills you will need to build that successful home business!
Yours in success! |
