From beachside villas to spacious apartments overlooking the ocean, there are literally hundreds of beaches that line the coast including resorts of all sizes that offer a range of amenities.
The southern Bulgarian Black Sea coast encompasses areas near Burgas. The most famous of the southern resorts are Sunny Beach, Sveti Vlas, Nessebar, Primorsko and Sozopol. Of these, Sunny Beach is the largest and offers the most beach activities. Primorsko to the south is a resort popular with Bulgarians. It is smaller in size than some of the other resorts but has a long pleasant beach that is perfect for swimming and boating. There are plenty of shops and cafes within easy walking distance along the beach and in the quaint town.
To the north Sozopol is a beautiful historic old town with two excellent beaches. The resort town makes a good starting point for other nearby beaches. There are numerous cafes, bars and restaurants that cater to both locals and tourists. Of course there are also many shops in which to find the perfect souvenir of your holiday to take back home to friends or relatives. Sozopol is less crowded than some of the other resort areas along the coast yet it offers all the same high quality amenities.
The northern Bulgarian Black Sea coast offers similar resorts along the length of the coast. Rusalka, one of the northernmost beaches is a small old-fashioned town where you can find peace and quiet along the sandy beach. By contrast, Varna is a bustling tourist city with lots of sightseeing options. One of the main attractions of the city is the large Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin. Built in the 1880s the church is an impressive structure with golden domes and has three altars. The Roman Thermae is a group of well-preserved Roman bath ruins that are the largest in Bulgaria. Both locations make ideal tourist attractions.
The high season along the coast, the most popular time for tourists, is July and August. During this time you can expect to find more traffic than usual and more people everywhere, including on the beaches. You’ll also find more restaurants, cafes and shops open as they often close during the colder season. The easiest way to get around is by renting a car however if you choose not to it is both easy and affordable to get around by bus, train or taxicab.
You might like to consider getting a rental property for your stay. These are often more economical than other accommodations and offer the same or better amenities and the availability of a kitchen is an added bonus when traveling with young children. There are villas and apartments that are located on or near the beach, many with their own pools and private access to a beach. Rental properties are available in many different types and sizes to suit your travel and your family needs.
Conclusion
The Bulgarian Black Sea coast makes a wonderful holiday destination and yet is still unknown to many holidaymakers. It is easy to get to and offers a range of sandy beaches together with quieter resorts for those seeking a break away from it all.
