The age-old question, Which is better Classic Games or Modern Games? The answer to this question is depends on who you ask. Sometimes the answer lies in the graphics, does the graphics of a video game determine the quality of the game? The answer will also depend on who you ask.
For example, if you asked a teenage boy if the better the graphics the better the game they would say yes. If you asked someone in their late twenties or early thirties they would say no.
A pure example of that statement would be this, Pac Man has very simple graphics, it is a simple maze with dashes spread out all over the maze with colored ghosts trying to eat you while you eat the pellets and the fruits on the board. The graphics do not even compare to a game like Rock Band but the game is a Classic and a lot of fun.
Graphics make the game more interesting that is for sure. Games like Call of Duty, which takes place during a war conflict of some kind. But you need the graphics to help play the game otherwise the game is no fun.
Games like that where the graphics are needed to make the game playable then yes the game is better with graphics, can you really imagine playing Call of Duty with no graphics or very little graphics?
Graphics go hand in hand with video games and let's face it; it is the graphics that really sell the game. Games like Grand Theft Auto wouldn't do as well if the graphics were bad.
The graphics make the game more enjoyable to play but it doesn't make the concept of the game any better. If you have a bad game concept and great graphics no matter how great and realistic the graphics are the game is still going to be horrible.
So, graphics makes the game more exciting and more enjoyable. But they don't make the game itself any better. Next time you are in a video game store, take a look at a few games; choose one that has great graphics, then choose one that has fewer graphic and then choose one that looks horrible on the box.
Then turn the box around and read the description of the game, be honest and ask yourself which game sounds the best. Chances are you will choose the game with the least amount of graphics.
If you don't think you can be objective, have a friend read the descriptions of the games and see which game sounds like more fun. This would be a better way to judge the games. It is a fun experiment and you may surprise yourself.
Sometimes the commercialism of the game is what attracts you to the game to begin with. If commercials just gave you a brief description of the game and a small taste of what the game was like, you may be buying different games.
