Link building is at the heart of what we do as an Internet branding company, so we'd like to share with you ten things you can do to receive free links from well-established websites.
1. Submit articles to directories. In the byline or resource box of your article, include a link to your website and use a special offer such as a free report to get them to click on the link. Ezinearticles is the #1 article directory, so if you only submit to one, make sure it's that one. Other websites might pick up your article and reprint it on their website, which will give you additional traffic and exposure.
2. Reciprocal links. Approach websites and blogs in markets similar to yours and ask that they post a link to your website and tell them you will do the same for them. It's best if you can get to know the website owner first by leaving comments on the blog or having an email exchange rather than asking them out of the blue.
3. Submit press releases. Write a press release about your product or website launch and send it to the various PR websites, such as PRWeb and PRLeap. At the very least you will get a free link out of this, in addition to the possibility of lots of free exposure.
4. Submit your site to web directories. Addurl.nu is a free directory that can give you hundreds of backlinks without having to give a reciprocal link. You have to manually submit to each site, however, so it is time consuming. Or you can pay a fee to have it done for you.
5. Create a Squidoo lens. It only takes about 15 minutes to make one and you can include links to your website. Hubpages is similar to Squidoo, and you can use this site as well.
6. Social Media Profiles. Web 2.0 sites like Twitter, Facebook, Myspace and so many others are places where you can insert links to your website on your profile page. Choose a username that brands you as a person or your business.
7. Forum Signatures. Find active, high-traffic forums in your niche that allow links in the signature field. Also, as you participate in discussions on the forum you can occasionally include links to your blog posts or inner pages of your website. Don't just go to the forums to post links, however. Be a contributor to the discussions and be helpful.
8. Blog commenting. Leave comments on other blogs in your niche. Don't do this just to get a free link. Only comment when you have something helpful and worthwhile to say. This way you build a relationship with the blogger. It can also lead to opportunities to write guest posts on other blogs.
