Google Keyword Bids and Affiliate Favors

Today we have two questions on the agenda. First, we'll talk about what to do if Google raises the bids on your keywords. Then we'll talk using affiliates in your launch and which ones you should repay the favor to.

Question #1: I called Google to find out why I had to increase my bids on so many keywords to make them active. Some of the bids had to be increased to as much as $10 per click. They told me to create different ad groups and increase the quality of the keywords.

So I did this and selected the best keywords related to my category. I did more keyword research and the bid amounts are still too high and many of the keywords are still inactive. I used the keywords in my ad titles and text in my squeeze page. I also listed the keywords on page properties. I don't see how I can improve the quality or relevance any further. What do I need to do?

Answer: It seems like you've done everything I would have told you to do. However, when you break the keywords up into ad groups make it 20 or less ad groups. (Although, Google may recommend 14 or less ad groups.)

There are really only three things you can do. You can increase your bid, increase your quality score, or delete the keywords. You've already tried to increase your quality score. Since the keyword bids are still too high for you then the only option left is to delete them and move on.

Question #2: Since my launch I am getting hit up by all of my affiliates to repay the favor. I want to pay them back, but obliviously I have to prioritize. What kind of information should I get from them to repay the favor?

I was thinking of asking them to specifically outline what they want me to promote, the number of emails, the frequency, and where the traffic comes from, etc. Should I require all this information?

Answer: I will tell you that I had to repay favors to all my affiliates. You prioritize who you are going to mail for by finding out who made you the most money on your launch. If the affiliate didn't sell anything for you then don't repay the favor because they didn't make you any money.

On the other hand, if the affiliate made you a lot of money then ask them what you can do to help them out. The reason you should do this is because the next time you do a mailing, you want to have this high producing affiliate on board.

Just be honest when you respond to affiliates asking for the return favor. If you are busy then let them know. Be selective of who you repay based on their sales. Remember, you are in this business to make money.
