If you are trying to get the best deal for when it comes to selling your motorcycle, consider an online classified ad. Selling your motorcycle yourself may be more effort then taking it to a dealer, but in the long run, the profits will be worth it.

So what do you need to do to make sure that your ad is effective and that your motorcycle is sold without complication. There are several things.

You should determine your asking price, and the first place to start is with the validation guides located on the Internet. You should also browse online sites for motorcycles similar to yours to see what the going price is.

You may know what your bike is worth to you, but you may not know what the going price actually is. You have to take into account depreciation and the age of your bike. Don't be afraid to price on the high end though, because most people expect that they will be able to bargain with you and negotiate a lower price.

Create an ad that describes the best features of your motorcycle, describing its condition, mileage, number of owners, and be sure to include a picture. In preparation for sale, have your bike cleaned and detailed professionally, and make sure that it stats, there is nothing worse than losing a sale because of a dead battery.

If your motorcycle turns out to need major repairs, you may want to reconsider whether or not selling is a viable option. In any case, it is better to find out before you try to sell your bike.

Be wary of potential buyers from overseas, many fraudulent buyers contract with sellers to arrange shipping and payment details, not planning, of course to actually send payment once they receive the item. Only do business with buyers that you meet in person, and use your gut instinct when dealing with them, particularly when allowing potential buyers to test drive your bike.

Once you have sold your motorcycle, make sure that you contact the DMV for proper title transfer procedure. It is important to make sure that the bike is registered with the new owner and not with you. You do not want to be held liable for any accidents and or damage caused by the new owner.

Finally, take cash payments, or money orders, not personal checks. Even if the person seems reliable it is always better to be cautious, and save yourself the time and money in the long run.
