The dollhouse collection is already well-worth a visit but this museum, launched in October 2008, and still has more to offer its patrons. For one, the museum itself is a historical gem. It rests on a 6,000 square foot building built in 1939 by the Works Progress Administration. Its high ceilings and iron girders add to the ambience of the place, making it an ideal place for learning and evoking creativity.
The Great American Dollhouse Museum also offers the added facilities of a playroom where kids can play with a dollhouse village all they want. There is also a multi-purpose, classroom-type room that is envisioned to be a venue for a variety of hands-on workshops on miniaturism, such as doll making and decorating, as well as a lunchroom for visiting students.
