Uggs became well known in the 60s and 70s when they were discovered by surfers and swimmers in Australia. They are extremely warm and anyone who is silly enough to go surfing in the winter winds up with extremely cold feet. Slip on a pair and your feet are warm in no time.

Over the last few years Uggs have made their debut on the international footwear scene and have become fashion footwear items that are highly sought after. They come in many shapes sizes and styles and there is an Ugg design to appeal to just about everyone.
Problem is, sheepskin boots aren't cheap. Whilst they were very cheap boots in Australia some decades ago, their climb up the fashion ladder has also become a climb up the price ladder. The author has seen Uggs with retail prices of $999 in some stores, and regularly with prices around $500.
