If you are ever caught out in a rain storm that has a lot of lightning strikes, not only or you at risk of getting struck by this lightning but the damage to you and everything around you can be dangerous. As this lightning can pass through you by whatever you might have in your hands like a club or a fishing pole, it is best to get inside as soon as possible to avoid coming in contact with the risk of being hit.
As the lightning itself isn't what causes the burns to one's body, it is the items that you might have on your body like a necklace, rainwater, sweat, and even the coins that you might have in your hand or on your body. There are five different ways that you could come in contact with this lightning so the safest place to be is indoors. Lightning is the next deadly form of weather next to floods, and it is said to be mostly from a lightning strike at a golf course.
The five ways of these are a direct hit, a side splash, contact voltage, ground current, and shock. A direct hit is of course straight from the clouds into you. Most of the time, you will not live through this unless the bolt can travel through your body and come out at another point. In other words, if you were bare footed or had on shoes that didn't have rubber soles on them the current would be able to travel right through your body. The damage to your health could show up as memory loss, attention deficits, sleeping disorders, dizziness, and numbness because the lightning causes injury to the nervous systems.
A side splash happens when the lightning hits something and then jumps across to you. A ground current is when the strike hits a tree's roots. This is why it's not a good thing or a good place to be in a rainstorm like the golf courses or the woods hunting.
As with all of these kinds of storms it is just better to be some place indoors. If this kind of storm should happen to come up, you can find shelter very easily and make sure that you will be safe. As these kinds of storms can come up very fast, you might need to drop everything and run to the nearest shelter. |
