Committing to anything in life is a huge responsibility. There are many commitments that we make in any given day that do not phase us, yet we carry them out just the same and don't think twice about it.
Other more significant commitments such as relationships in business and personally tend to take a stronger hold on us and can weigh us down immeasurably. The key to finding out if a relationship or business is worth your commitment remains a highly individual decision making process for every one.
Some would commit too quickly and some have difficulty committing at all. Generally there are reasons behind both. Someone who is too eager to commit has not perhaps weighed all the options and thinks it would be easier than doing it alone, whether it be a relationship or a business partnership.
Others who have difficulty committing at all have perhaps been abused or hurt in previous scenarios and are now wary of entering into a long term commitment preferring to strike out alone and not leave any strings attached in order for them to have complete freedom.
The important thing to remember here is that either one is not wrong. People have to gain experiences and we gain them primarily through relationships, personal ones and global ones. Each relationship affords us a new opportunity to handle scenarios and situations in a different light, to see things from another perspective and to learn and grow from the experiences that they bring to the table.
It is understandable that we fear commitment, in any of its forms. It affords us the positive alignment with another, yet it also ensures that we must be willing to co-create and learn from another as well. Listening to each other's views and honoring their feedback regardless of whether it coincides with yours.
Without the co-creative collaboration, a relationship cannot flourish and grow. It remains stagnant and eventually tries to break away for release. Many people think and want security and commit to a relationship with the hopes of securing it. It does not always hold, as difficulties will arise regardless of where you are in terms of your emotional maturity.
Not every relationship is meant to last forever. The only thing that is constant in any relationship is change. So if you are prepared to acknowledge and accept that change forms the better part of any given relationship, then you are well under way of understanding what the true nature of commitment in relationship is.
