We have all dated someone at some point who made less money than us. In fact, some people spend the majority of their life making more money than the people they date. In the past, this was almost always true for men because men generally out earned women even in the same jobs. This is now changing and the fields of opportunity have widened and this means that sometimes both men and women are dating people that earn far less than they do and this can present some difficult situations if you are not careful.
First and foremost, don't make a big deal about the fact that you make more money. This will just make the person that you are dating feel badly about themselves when they are with you. If you want the relationship to work, you would be better off not talking much about earnings or at least the difference in the amounts that you each earn.
Next, make sure that you plan accordingly if they want to pay for dinner. If you can afford a really nice restaurant on your salary when you pay for dinner when you go out, you need to think about what they can afford when they want to pay. If your date is excited about paying for dinner and drinks or a movie make sure that you pick something that you will both enjoy, but is more in line with their budget. This will allow you to have a good time while allowing for them to keep within their means to date you.
Do not give gifts that are too extravagant. When we like someone we have a tendency to shower them with gifts and want to give them things, but hold off a bit when you are buying. If they couldn't afford to give something to you, you are better off not buying it for them. Your date will just feel lousy if you are always giving extravagant gifts and they are not able to do the same. This takes a bit of effort to find where that middle ground is, but you'll be improving the relationship a bit by holding back.
Do not make everything about money. When you focus on money, those who don't make much, begin to squirm. If you always make everything about money the relationship won't move forward. Even when you are trying to be conscience about their financial situation, you shouldn't make this obvious. Instead, allow it to be something that you keep to yourself so that you can improve the relationship without bringing the person down. Money is a touchy thing, so be sure that you navigate carefully, especially in a new relationship.
