You're poured your heart and soul into choosing the right domain name, making sure you have an eye catching color scheme, written amazing content and submitted your URL to all of the search engines. Your website is complete and open for business, so you sit back and wait for visitors.

Ahem...did anyone on the internet hear that? "The website is ready for business!" It feels like no one heard you because no one is visiting.

You check your visitor stats ten times a day, only to ascertain that the sole visitor is your grandmother. You start to get discouraged as the realization sinks in that having a well-designed website is only part of the equation of having a successful website.

What you need is traffic, and there are lots of ways to increase visitors to your site. A good place to start building is with article marketing.

If you've written content for your website or blog, then you are no stranger to writing copy, and you can use the same skills to create articles to market your site. You should begin by picking 5-10 topics that you are knowledgeable about (that also relate to the theme or topic of your website) and start writing articles that relate to those topics.

The articles don't have to be long. In fact, most article sites will only accept articles that range between 400 and 700 words, so don't get too wordy! Keep the focus of each article centered around teaching the reader something about the main point. If your website is all about how to attract hummingbirds to your yard, then your articles should be informative, with titles such as "10 ways to make your yard hummingbird-friendly" or "The do's and don'ts of attracting exotic birds to your house."

elaborate on the subject enough to show your reader that you are indeed knowledgeable about the topic, but don't spill everything you know in one article. Remember, the more articles you write, the more potential traffic you can lure to your site.

Remember, the goal is to get them interested enough in the article to get the reader to click over to your website and become a regular reader or customer.
