Homeschooling is widely accepted and followed in most parts of America. However, homeschooling may not be the perfect choice for every parent. One must accept the fact that often both parents are required to work hard to run a home and have no time to educate their child at home. Besides, teaching is an art and not all parents have the knack to teach their child.

Though homeschooling can have an edge over public school, it won't be of any benefit if you can't teach your child. You need not be trained to teach, but you need to have the basic skills and knowledge to educate your child. Many parents find the day quite hectic and time consuming and would rather send their child to a regular school. Take the case of single parents who find it tough enough to earn to meet their home expenses.

As a parent, you may not be well versed with certain subjects and may not have the confidence to teach your child. Parents, who may be academically poor, would find it a discomfort trying to educate their child at home. Homeschooling is not simply asking your child to sit and learn on his or her own. As a parent you have the biggest role to play and need to put in plenty of time and effort, since your child's future lies entirely in your hands.

Homeschooling means sharing a good equation with your children for a start. Agreed that homeschooling strengthens family bonds, however, if there has been some kind of bitterness from before it would be tough. Also your child needs to agree and feel comfortable about taking lessons from you. If you start homeschooling at a pre adolescent age, this problem won't arise. However, if you plan homeschooling when your child has already started to enjoy public school, it can get difficult.

When you plan to educate your child at home, you need to be prepared to make numerous adjustments and compromises. You would need to spend several hours of the day teaching your child and then later prepare test papers, project outlines and so on. If you are working, you will have to give up your earnings as well, unless you are fine with a part time job. However, when you take up home education, your child and his lessons become your only and top priority.

You need have loads of patience to educate your child at home. You cannot afford to lose your temper. Not every child is a fast learner and may require detailed explanations. A short-tempered parent is ill advised to homeschool a child. You also need to keep coming up with activities that can boost your child's knowledge. Homeschooling makes you play the dual role of a mother and a teacher. Playing both the roles leave you exhausted, however, if you plan and stick to a schedule it won't be so tough.

The success rate of home education is certainly high and could be the best gift for your child. However, before you decide to homeschool your child, consider all these aspects before you take the plunge. Teaching your child at home may be a bit difficult, but could definitely be fulfilling in the long run.
