Word of mouth advertising is the most inexpensive and yet the most effective of any type of advertising. To get the word out about your company include a variety of different mediums in your marketing plan to attract the widest customer base possible. Creating award winning custom displays goes hand in hand with a great location. You need to decide who and where your customers really are before ordering your display signage. If you cut hair and specialize in the latest hairstyles for teens, for example, having custom displays with your cards in the food court of a mall would be ideal.
From there, you can determine the amount of space you have to work with and get your message across with the perfect combination of graphics and text. In the former example, you could show pictures of clients you have worked with previously. You could also use a modern theme featuring some of the latest trends and color palettes for teens and combine it with a catchy tagline. Include your logo and contact information to complete the advertisements.
Radio and Television Advertising
A large portion of the public still listens to local radio and television stations to keep up on what's going on in the community. Make your business one of these events. Basic advertising slots are good for a start. To grab attention from the public, collaborate with the local media or have a contest to build momentum around your business.
You could have the viewers or listeners collect a series of words, for instance, and have them bring the words in to enter for a contest or have so many customers collect a series of words and bring them in to be entered into a draw. Using the hair cutting business as an example, the winner could receive a makeover. This could be covered by the radio station or local television station, or it could be done in conjunction with a community event.
Community Events
Customers will shop and use a business that isn't afraid to give back to the community. If there is a family or charity in need, use your resources to help them. For example, you could set aside one day where a percentage or all of the money made off haircuts goes to a local charity. If you don't want to be quite so directly involved, sponsor a group or event that benefits the community. Lastly, you can donate to local schools or causes.
Display signage is effective, but when you use a variety of mediums, your message will reach more people and have a huge effect on your word of mouth advertising. Custom displays, the media, and community events give you the opportunity to send a message directly to your customers so when they think of your industry, they think of you.
