If you think about it, can you actually go anywhere in the United States without coming across a plaque? In one form or another, plaques are a part of the culture of America.
From the large plaque hanging on chains in front of your favorite restaurant to the memorial dedication of a local park to the honor the people who made the creation of the park possible, plaques are unnoticeably present in our daily lives. I say unnoticeably present because we see these plaques so often that we tend not to pay much attention to them.
Another good example of the plaques we see all around us are address plaques. They appear on the front wall of homes in everyone's neighborhood. You see these address plaques hung on wrought iron posts on front lawns and in front yard gardens of homes landscaped with pride. Some of these plaques have as little as the address number on them. Some address plaques have the entire address of the location from which they are hanging, yet other wall address plaques have greetings like: "The Jones Family Welcome You, 1234 Main Street, Any Town, USA." Some go as far as to change the address plaque with a greeting to match the holiday of the season. With a little imagination you can come up with a wall address plaque unique to your address.
In recent years, garden plaques have become extremely popular. These colorful and often smile generating works of garden art are the finishing touch to the beauty of natures flowers and plants. From adorable messages like: "Come in. My Flowers Want to Meet You," to natures beautiful creatures like butterfly plaques, frog plaques, colorful sun plaques and more. Some garden plaques will also double as stepping stones.
Memorial and honorable mention plaques are by far the most recognized variety when it comes to wall plaques, because we see these plaques hanging on the walls of reception rooms in almost every business office in the country. You know what I'm saying here. The large wooden plaque on the wall for the special employees of the month, quarter and year are honored. An engraved gold plate with their name on it is inserted on the company wall plaque and will remain until that particular award comes up again.
Bronze plaques are special indeed. You see these plaques used for memorial dedications in many places such as memorial parks, corporate offices, schools, churches, museums and sport stadiums. These beautiful works of metal art honor heroes, statesmen, financial donors, religious figures, sport's greatest contributors and the list goes on and on.
Decorative plaques have been used in home interior decorating for many years. These plaques are not for honoring anyone or for dedication. No, these plaques are works of art to display on your walls at home in order to add charming ambiance to the room and may be used outside to proudly display in your garden.
With the introduction of fiberstone and fiberglass resin, these amazing plaques look as if they were chiseled out of stone by master artists. Just a few of the choices offered are gargoyles, dragons, angels, cherubs, cupid, fairy and busts.
So by now you should have a good idea on the different styles of plaques. With all the choices available to you, I have no doubt that there is a perfect place around your home to display a few of these plaques. Whether it is inside or outside, plaques add an extra dimension of artful elegance to any place that they are displayed. |
