Ironite is a substance that homeowners can add to the soil of their lawn to make the grass green. However, you do need to know whether your soil does need to have this solution because some grasses are yellow in color and will not turn green no matter what you add to the soil. Before you start using this product, you do need to test the soil to see whether or not it actually does have a deficiency. For example, Kentucky Blue Grass does have a yellowish color, which means it is important to know what you can expect before you even seed the lawn.

According to some environmentalists, there are also problems with using this product to grow vegetables. It is a chemical and you do run the risk of some of this chemical getting into the vegetables. Two of the waste products that are in this product are arsenic and lead and according to some opponents of its use, these ingredients meet the requirements of being a hazardous waste. However, when you read the label you will have the impression that it is environmentally friendly and safe to use in all situations.

According to the company that manufactures this product, using this product does not pose a health risk to humans when it is used on lawns. Neither does it pose a risk for the flowers and shrubs in your garden and will certainly help them to grow and thrive. The forms of lead and arsenic in the product will not escape into the environment. According to the executives of the company, if you do consume vegetables have grown in soil treated with Ironite, the ingredients in the product will simply pass through your system without any harmful effects.

Gardeners have successfully used this product since the mid-1950 and there has never been any cases of health problems as a result. The company claims it has never been sued or fined, and this most definitely would have happened if it was discovered that the product was a health risk. However there are cases before the courts with charges of selling products that are unsafe for consumers to use. The company experts that have tested the product will tell you that the amounts of arsenic and lead it does contain are the least toxic form of these materials. At the same time, there is a possibility that the soil and weather conditions can play a role in transforming them into more toxic forms, but this is not the fault of the product itself.

Scientists are concerned about the effects that the use of this product in crop production could have on small children. It use in helping a lawn to grow is not really of any concern in this area. Since childrens bodies do retain minerals from the food they eat, eating foods from soil treated with this product could potentially pose a health risk to them. There is no law requiring the company to list all the ingredients on the label, which is why many people are not aware of what it actually contains.
