When road workers are trying to build a road or clear out buildings, trees, and move big areas of ground, they have to be very careful and cannot work when it is raining. When water gets on the ground, it makes it muddy because there will be water going everywhere that will make big water puddles. Road workers can get stuck in them. It also is not good to be out there because someone can get hit with lightning because of all the metal and the trees. You've heard of the saying that "water and oil don't mix", and it goes the same way with road workers and rain because they don't mix either. Rain can cause floods and mudslides. It can make you sink, slip, or fall.

The truck will sink in the ground and if they are still working, they can slide or flip off of the truck and hurt themselves really bad. But it depends on how much it rains or how long it lasts because if it doesn't rain that much, then they can keep on working. The ground will not be muddy or dangerous for them to keep doing their jobs. When there is too much water in the ground, it can make you slide out of control, hit something, slide down a hill, get stuck, and fall into ditches. They can get broken arms, legs, or really bad bruises on their bodies, and they will have to get to the hospital, causing them to possibly miss a few days of work. They have to work only on dry ground so no accidents can happen and they can do their jobs by not sliding everywhere.

If there is a lot of rain that day, it will take a few days to dry and they can work for days at a time, which puts them behind and makes their pay a lot less than it normally is. Like I said, it depends on how much rain there is for them to stop working. If it rains for 30 minutes, they will keep working but if it rains for an hour or more than an hour, then they will stop work for the day. If it rains for days and days, you will be out of work for weeks and maybe longer than that because they found it is not yet dry or dry enough for them to work or even drive on.
