The joy of having a new friend following the arrival of your puppy or older dog in your home is usually reduced by the realization that you have to train your dog to cohabit with you conveniently.
Naturally, it becomes a serious matter if you have no dog training ideas as almost all new dog owners are at the risk of not having. Yes, you know that you cannot train your puppy or older dog without some informed dog training knowledge; which is why I have listed below necessary tips to help you train your dog without many problems.
1. Do not let the first day pass before you initiate the first dog training session for your dog. Begin the same day the puppy arrives your home. Let him understand that you have rules you would like it to follow.
2. Provide a Crate for your puppy. Crates make for better puppy control in your house. And the Crate gives your dog the natural den experience, as it would in the wild. And if you have to move or transport your dog, the crate comes handy. You can also, very conveniently, take your puppy to the vet in a crate.
However, do not keep your dog in the Crate for longer than 4 hours at a time. If you do, he will do more than urinate in the Crate. He will form the habit of using the crate as his toilet. Dogs evacuate within four hourly intervals.
3. Do not forget that your puppy will not know to tell you that it wants to potty. It is your responsibility to observe his potty pattern. To aid you in doing this, note that most dogs do the potty following each meal, after playing hard and immediately he wakes up. So take him out during these times.
4. Listen friend, your dog is very sensitive to your behavior, so do not exhibit anger during dog training sessions. If your dog is afraid he will learn less as fast as he should in a situation of positive vibes from you. Do not make your dog associate his name with an angry tone. Correction works best at training a dog than angry reprimands or punishments.
5. If your dog is not acquired for security purposes, which requires a different type of dog training, your dog or puppy should be encouraged to socialize. Aside from the routine dog training, your puppy needs to play in order to get its natural exercises necessary for being fit and healthy. You can schedule a one hour walk and half an hour play time for your dog according to your free time or get someone in the household to take charge of this for the mutual benefit of both the dog and your family. The dog can be taken out to meet with other dogs and interact with people so as to limit its aggressive tendencies, which is usually made potent by isolation.
With the above tips, I believe that you are no more naive about dog training; you now have some informed knowledge on some aspects of dog training to help you train your puppy.
