Are Waste Water Plants Doing A Good-Enough Job?

Do you understand what those big tanks of smelly water are there for? When I was younger, I didn't even think about them and had no desire to want to know. Today I know what they are used for, but still don't know the simplest things about their jobs or how they are ran. I just thought that these big tanks of this smelly water were there to make some of us people just sick.

These tanks are always full, or so it looks, because whenever you will drive past one of them, it sometimes looks like this would overflow if it rained too much. No matter how many times you went past them, they always looked the same. I do know now that this water is cleaned many times to make sure that there are no germs or anything else in this water and that it is then pumped into holding tanks, which in reality are the big water towers that you will see with the name of the town on the outside of this tower.

Sometimes I think that these smelly holding tanks should be under cover so that people won't have to see them or maybe smell them. People can usually smell it when the wind is blowing in the right direction. Depending on the holding tank, some smell very bad. Some might even think that these smell worse than a field of skunks.

Do you think that these holding tanks are doing a good enough job, or can there be some improvements done to the tanks themselves, the way they are manned, or the places that they are built? Some of them have been built at the outskirts of town, but then they might have a highway built right next to them. It seems that no matter how nice the town might look, it will still get a lower rating as for anyone wanting to live there because of these waste water tanks being in everyone's view.

Here is one example of covering something of waste: back in my hometown, they have a really big beef and pork plant that kills these animals. What they do with the leftover by-products that can't be used is take it to the other end of town where they are put into tanks that were built underground to be burned. All that is seen by a person's eyes is a pipe that sticks out of the ground, sending a fire into the sky. It still smells, but you don't see what is being burned.
