Home business is one of the fastest growing sectors in the U.S. economy. Network marketing or multilevel marketing (MLM) has enormous appeal for home business, because your efforts are compounded by those of the people you enroll into the opportunity. For your home business to be a success you must carefully investigate the network marketing companies you are considering representing. Casually joining a company without analyzing its products and management structure places your time, money, and reputation at risk.
Look for a company with a variety of products or services that are highly desirable for a large number of people. You need to have confidence in what you sell, so use the products or services yourself, so you can feel good recommending them to others
Find a company that sells consumable items, so there will be a continuing demand -- resulting in residual income for you. Small, one-time purchases would require you to continually invest time and advertising dollars to locate new customers.
If the products are costly they must be a good value for the money. To be competitive, the products should be unique, or at least have a clear advantage over ones that are cheaper and are readily available.
The company should have control of the production and quality of its products and be able to ensure a stable supply for your customers.
Look for a company that has attractive, informative and readily available product information, such as catalogs, brochures, web pages, CD's, and DVD's. It must be easy to order products a toll free phone number and/or a website.
Monthly automatic shipment of products should be available. Although it adds to your cost, it is convenient, because neither you nor your customers will run out of products or need to remember to place the monthly order. This keeps the parent company stable. They can plan production and have a continuous income they can count on to pay staff and associates. It also means a steady, residual income for you.
Customers really appreciate a warranty or satisfaction guarantee on products. It builds consumer confidence and increases sales and your success.
Be sure to analyze the management of the company. The leaders must have integrity. One indicator of integrity is a desire to help others, not just make money and appeal to people's greed.
The company must be financially stable with a good track record. It should still be in its growth phase with expanding markets. However, it should not be expanding so fast that it has a heavy debt load.
The compensation plan must be fair to all associates, not just funneling money to the top brass. It must be sustainable, with a logical source of continuing profit, such as automatic shipments or monthly fees.
To encourage prospective associates to sign up, there must be a convenient way to do so, like a web page or a faxed application form (that takes credit cards, if needed). There must be good training available -- such as new associate guidelines, CD's, DVD's, web pages, brochures, e-mail newsletters, and meetings to support new associate success. |
