There is still very little understood about psoriasis even though it has been affecting people for many years. It is suggested that the main problem is that of a disorder that is affecting the immune system and this causes an attack on the body.
The result is that the body is then producing skin cells at a rate much faster then the body can actually manage and this then leads to inflammation and also the skin becomes very itchy. Normally it takes the skin up to 30 days to renew but with psoriasis the process is ten times faster and takes as little as 3 days. So the problem is clear to see and that this is caused by an excess amount of skin on the body.
Anyone at any age can suffer from this condition and whilst it is not a threat to human life, it does have a severe emotional impact on the victim. There are reports of bullying especially amongst young children in school and even some adults feel that they are missing on career opportunities because of their condition. Some adults are afraid that they will not be able to meet a partner and there are those who are in a relationship who find it difficult to be close to their partner because they feel ashamed.
There is some suggestion that the condition is heredity and if one parent or other family member suffers from the condition then there is a chance that the disease can be passed from one person to another.
The exact cause of psoriasis is still a mystery amongst many scientists but there are some known triggers that can cause flare ups, and there will be times when the patient will also notice that their skin is sometimes feeling okay and there will also be times when there will be moments of pain and severe itching. Possible reactions to certain drugs can cause the condition to flare up.
Given that the condition is generally a result of a weak immune system anything that can cause the immune system to be stimulated can also cause problems. Even something as a bruise, a small wound or cut can result in an outbreak.
One other factor that is considered to affect those with psoriasis is that or suffering from stress. It has been observed by patients that those with high stress levels do seem to experience symptoms that are much worse than previously.
It is important therefore in order to find methods that will help to reduce stress levels and one of the best methods is to use simple exercise techniques such as yoga or form of meditation. Just going outside to get some fresh air can also help, as it will allow you to take your mind off your condition, which can also help a great deal.
Psoriasis is a condition that cannot be passed from one person to another so there is no risk that it can be caught from a psoriasis sufferer. It is important to actually be reassuring to those suffering from psoriasis as they will be aware of their condition in public.
