Making a Statement With Ultraviolet Tattoos

People have many different ways of expressing themselves. Some people like to write poetry, some like to sing, and others like to paint. Then, there are the people who like to make their body their canvas. These people now have an interesting new way to express themselves.

Now, there are ultraviolet tattoos. These will be especially interesting for people who want to get tattoos in a certain visible place, but cannot do so because of work restrictions. Ultraviolet tattoos allow these people to get the tattoo that they want, wherever they want…with a twist.

Specifically, ultraviolet tattoos are invisible under regular light. Well, that doesn't sound too fun does it? That is, of course, until black light comes along, and the tattoos are illuminated. Ultraviolet tattoos are indeed an ultimate form of self-expression for people who like to go clubbing, since that's the main source of black light.

So, what kinds of people are interested in getting ultraviolet tattoos? Well, it's actually a main culture that has sprung up around this invention, and that is you (usually teenage, or college age) club goers. It seems that older people prefer to get tattoos that are visible in any kind of light.

Of course, nothing comes without risks, and for those interested in getting these kinds of tattoos, the risks are unfortunately numerous. There have been numerous instances of skin problems after getting the tattoos. This is thought in part to be because of a reaction to the chemical Phosphorous. For example, blisters, infections, and skin rashes have occurred. There is also some indication that cancer might result from the UV ink.

Since there are a number of safety concerns with this kind of ink, you'll find that there aren't too many tattoo artists that will use it. They'd rather stick to what they know – regular ink – than risk a lawsuit because of using UV ink. However, some artists ignore the risks, and even make their own ink.

So, has UV ink ever been FDA approved? Some tattoo parlors actually have advertised that it has, but that's untrue. The FDA has not approved it for people, just fish. Fish? Yes, that's right, fish. Have you ever gone to a pet store and seen fish with extraordinary neon markings? That's because they were first injected with UV ink. This ink shows up well under aquarium lights. That's why the fish section is often darker than the rest of the store.

Also, if you're interested in getting this kind of tattoo, you had better have patience. Getting this kind of tattoo is similar to getting a regular one in the overall process, but it takes a certain kid of skill to apply these. Just because these kinds of tattoos are invisible under regular light, doesn't mean that they can't fade under sunlight too. Just like in regular tattoos, repeated exposure to sunlight results in a fading of colors which, especially in this kind of tattoo, defeats the purpose of getting on in the first place!
