Coastal Flooding In The Books Again For Florida

Well, Floridians are once again facing the real possibility of being hit by a hurricane one more time. For the ones who have lived in this region for many years, it is a common occurrence that is just lived through and they take whatever the weather brings then pick up the pieces and go on. It has to be a nail biting experience to go through once, but over and over, year after year would be more than a lot of us could bear. People with lesser grit would pick up and move inland to somewhere we might consider safer.

The next forty eight hours will tell us the tale of hurricane Fay and what she could leave behind. The rainfall amounts can range from four to twelve inches. The storm itself could be at least at a category one status by the time it reaches land and depending on how much steam she picks up in the twelve to twenty four hours, it could reach category two. This is not that severe when you consider hurricanes, but when you consider it will be packing up to one hundred miles per hour winds, it seems severe enough to most of us.

People who live along the coasts of Florida will likely sustain the most impact as usual, but the pan handle of Florida is not that wide so there is likely to be enough damage to go around for everyone. People are already in the process of making plans to evacuate if it becomes necessary. This means that they might be boarding up their windows as we speak and packing their cars with all the necessary supplies they will need to hold up in a hotel further inland or at the home of friends or family.

Those who have lived in hurricane prone areas for some time know what needs to be done and usually believe they know how big the threat is. However, some hurricanes in the past years have proven to be a lot more than some of the old pros were even prepared for. It is probable that since some of the really big hurricanes like Andrew and Katrina came to pass, it made some folks reconsider the sensibility of remaining in their homes when hurricanes are coming not matter how insignificant that they are predicted to be.

It will be interesting and scary at the same time to see exactly what hurricane Fay brings to Florida this time. With any luck at all it will blow over quickly and will not be very damaging, but there will likely be some coastal flooding anyway. Being along the beach anywhere it strikes will not be a wise idea since it is possible that many things will be washed away and people do not want to be one of those things.
