Are There Deadly Fish In The Waters You Visit

There is hardly any kind of body of water that people do not use for their enjoyment or in making a living somehow. Even the smallest of creeks and streams can be used to swim or wade in during the hot summer months. The rivers of our country are filled with boaters, swimmers, skiers, and fishermen. Some of these activities take place all during the year. Our coast lines are also filled with people enjoying various activities all year long where the climate allows in states like California and Florida.

You never hear an awful lot about mishaps with deadly fish in the rivers or creeks, but accidents and deaths involving fish that live in the ocean are a different matter. Scuba divers are usually the ones who can witness some of the deadly aquatic species first hand, but you do not have to be diving and looking for them to run into them by accident in the ocean. The marine life that beach goers step on is some of the most common occurrences.

Jelly fish are notorious along the shallow waters in some Florida coastlines. It is all too frequent that swimmers will step on these stinging blobs of clear looking water ocean dwellers. The sting from their tentacles can be extremely painful and but rarely deadly for humans. These creatures are not fish really, but they swim and they sting and sometimes they are even deadly.

The most feared of ocean fish predators have to be the sharks. Sharks infest waters all over the world and there are too many different species to mention. Although shark attacks are rarer than you would think, there are shark attacks to humans every year. It seems that the majority of these attacks happen to surfers and swimmers and it is thought to be because they bear a slight resemblance to the sea turtles that sharks like to eat. Some divers swim in close proximity with sharks regularly with no problems, but they can never be trusted to not attack.

Many of the deadly ocean species of fish do not commonly come into contact with humans unless they are diving in places where they are likely to encounter them. Some of the deadliest fish to humans are the stone or rock fish, the blow fish, some sea snakes and eels, sharks, and sting rays. Of course, these are not all the ocean fish that are deadly to humans, but these are some that are most talked about. The most feared freshwater fish that is deadly to humans is the fearsome little piranha. It is not their bite or sting that is deadly, but their voracious appetite and their razor sharp tiny teeth. They can strip the flesh from an entire person in a matter of minutes when a school of them attack.
