3 Easy Steps To Accessing The Hidden Job Market

When you are a potential jobseeker, this can prove to be a big hindrance in your search for employment. If you can find a way to tap the hidden job market, it can be the biggest advantage you will have over other jobseekers.

In your search for locating this hidden market, following the tips below will be of great help.

1. Build Up and Use Your Networking Skills

This is the most important thing that you need to do when searching for the hidden job market. Start by talking to everyone who may be in a position to provide information about existing jobs. These people do not have to necessarily be your friends or acquaintances, relatives or others that you know from previous jobs. They can be anyone that you can comfortably strike up a conversation with in an amiable way on a common subject.

Later, you can tactfully steer the conversation towards your real objective. The best way to do this is not to ask them directly if they are aware of any job openings. Instead, you can ask them for any suggestions or tips they may have. If they have any particular job opening in mind they will surely mention it to you.

Even if you do not get information related to a specific job, you can gain otherwise useful information and build up invaluable contacts as well.

2. Focus Your Research on a Particular Industry

You should assess your skills, aptitude and desires and then begin a search for an opening in a particular field. Research companies in your area to identify those related to your chosen field in order to contact potential employers.

It is also necessary to gain information about the tasks, experience and skills that may be required for openings in such companies. This is important, because you will be applying for a job without access to a job description; and also because it will allow you to tailor your resume to fit the requirements of the job based on information you have gained.

3. Selling Yourself Is the Key to Success

When there may be no hiring requirement projected by a company that you have targeted, it may be difficult to get the Human Resources department or those responsible for hiring to pay particular attention to your resume.

Here is where your research of the company comes to your aid - by letting you better understand what they may be looking for. When you have this information, you can use it to sell yourself to the company.

By asking yourself why the company should hire you, you will be able to design your resume to list all your qualifications, experience, training and skills that may be of interest to them and project yourself as the ideal candidate for a position in the organization. Even if there is no immediate opening, your resume will be retained on file to be considered for any openings in the future.
