Almost all children love to play in water. It can be bathwater, pool water, or even the water hose, but they just seem to love it. It usually starts when they are only infants when you place them in the bathtub for the first time. Once they learn to sit on their own, the bathtub becomes a whole new play land. When they are old enough for their first wading pool in the summertime, it gets even better. Once they learn to swim in the big pool, it is a brand new excitement all over again.

When kids play in water, what ever the source or depth, they can have a tendency to be a little rambunctious while they are playing. After all, half the fun is the jumping and splashing. As parents we should realize from the beginning that they need supervision at all times from the first bathtub days all the way to the big swimming pool. Accidents can always happen when you least expect them and they usually do and even when you are supervising.

When babies are in the bathtub, it is essential that you make sure you have everything that you will need before you put them in. This way you will not be tempted to leave them to get something even if it is only for a second while you reach behind you for a towel. Make sure you have the towel and any bathing accessories they need while they are in the tub. It might also be good to keep a phone in the room as well in case there is an accident you can get help immediately. It might sound a little over the top, but it really is not.

Small children should be accompanied when they are outside especially if they are playing in a pool. Even small pools can pose a drowning danger for little ones. Water is not the only thing to be concerned about while children play outside. Sun block needs to always be used to protect their delicate skin. Permanent skin damage can happen easily with young children and it should be avoided at all costs.

When children move up to big swimming pools, supervision is just as important. They can sometimes be careless while they are playing and many accidents can happen outside the pool too. Running on a slippery surface around the edge of the pool has been the cause of many broken bones and head injuries. Hitting the head and falling into the pool has caused a lot of drowning. If your child is not a great swimmer and they could venture over their head, have them keep on a arm floaters or even a life jacket as a precaution even if you are in attendance. It is always better to use too much precaution instead of not enough.
