New York City Noise Complaints

New York City is one of the absolute biggest cities you’ll find in America and there are millions of people who live in the region, making it one of the most populated regions in the world considering the size. With so many people in such a small area you better believe that there will be tons of noise complaints in the area and one of the number on reasons is due to cars. Now you might think it has to do with the way people slam their horns on in New York City or through the noise from all the masses of cars on the road, but it’s actually from car alarms.

Car alarms have started getting so terrible in New York City that they now want to ban them completely from the city. There have been talks of this for years but nothing has happened, due in large part to car alarms still serving a useful purpose. People believe that the negatives outweigh the benefits in this circumstance but I have to favour with the people who want to keep the alarms, because although right now car thefts might be down in the area it could raise quickly in such a populated and diverse region if word spreads that car alarms are no longer legal. This would only entice car thieves to start getting back to their old ways and stealing cars as they please.

Some of the car manufactures definitely tone down the car alarms a little bit though because as of right now they have some pretty loud ones of the market which are a bit excessive. People are complaining not only about the loudness of the car alarms, but also the fact that most people who use a car alarm aren’t close enough to hear it and shut it off when it does go off. This means the car alarm could be sounding for hours or days before the owner even notices and shuts it off.

In New York roughly 90-95% car alarms are set off on accident either from something or someone brushing against it or speeding by it. The electrical charges are so precise on alarms nowadays that even a speeding motorist can set off alarms parked on the side of the road. When this happens I can see where people are beginning to get upset with things, but I still don’t see it as grounds to ban car alarms in one of the most populated areas with one of the highest crime rates.

I think that car alarms will remain for a long time to come and unless there is some other cost effective way that comes along then I believe car alarms will continue to be used. Even if only 10% of car alarms are set off for a good reason that still means it’s stopping many car thieves from getting away with stealing and for this I deem car alarms worthy of staying. I think a timer might be needed for them though, meaning that after it goes off if it isn’t shut off within the hour it automatically shuts off or something.
