Asthma is a chronic situation affecting the respiratory system. During the course of an asthma attack, bronchial tubes, which bring oxygen in and out of the lungs, tend to constrict and hence reduce the flow of oxygen coming to the lungs. The airways also become inflamed and lined up with mucus. Those symptoms can occur many times in a day or week, or much less often. The gravity of the attacks also differs.

Different triggers can be responsible for asthma attacks and the breathlessness, which is corollary. Asthma may also cause chest pain and loss of consciousness. It is a very serious condition, which can sometimes be deadly: while 300 million folks suffer from asthma around the world, asthma attacks kill an estimated 250,000 folks each year.

People who have asthma also have to go through its side effects in their everyday life. Sleeplessness is a common experience that may result in daytime fatigue, and may have a negative impact on one's personal and professional life. The World Health Organization even recognizes the fact that "reduced activity levels" as well as "school and work absenteeism" are very often associated with asthma. Sports will usually be more difficult for people with asthma, which can for instance be a social isolation factor for children.

If asthma cannot be definitively cured, doctors have found several ways to prevent and relieve the symptoms, allowing everybody that has asthma to stay in shape, exercise and have a normal life. With the proper treatments, there is no reason why somebody that has asthma should not be allowed to enjoy an active life.

A lot of factors are able to trigger an asthma attack. Some can be very simple things like the humidity and temperature of the air. However, the most usual ones are natural environmental allergens, such as house dust mites, cockroaches, spore and pollen as well as pollution from cars, tobacco smoke or chemical compounds, such as the ones found in perfumes and perfumed products. Medications such as aspirin or penicillin as well as some foods, such as milk or peanuts, in case of food allergies, can also trigger asthma. Asthma attack might also occur after exercising.

Your psychological state could also be a contributing factor in causing an asthmatic attack. Emotional stress, anxiety and tension are all able to trigger it. Many patients experiencing an asthmatic attack also make their condition worse by falling prey to panic, a very normal response to the scary experience they have to live through.

To better prevent asthmatic attacks, all of those triggers ought to be avoided as much as possible. Allergies are also responsible for triggering asthma attacks and allergy treatment may be used as a way to prevent them. There are however various kinds of asthma treatment. In the short-term, asthma attack treatment will give relief in case of an asthmatic attack. Asthma attack treatment is able to quickly provide asthma relief, but people with mild to severe asthma must take a long-term asthma treatment.

You may find several kinds of bronchial asthma treatment available out there, but not all of them will work out for you. Bronchial asthma treatment and allergy treatment also have many side effects when taken regularly and for an extended period of time, especially drugs containing corticosteroids or Beta2-adrenergic receptor agonists, the latter having cardiac side effects and increasing the risk of respiratory death. These issues might explain why around 50% of the people who suffer from asthma use some kind of alternative treatment, such as natural asthma treatment.

Even though almost no evidence proves the efficiency of treatments such as air ionizers or chiropractic, other types of natural asthma treatments such as homeopathy, yoga practices and hypnosis have shown significant results as asthma treatment. Hypnosis, just like yoga or meditation, but in a much easier and faster fashion, provides asthma relief because it is able to help control the psychological aspect of asthma through relaxation. With hypnosis you will be able to become a lot more relaxed, which can help prevent asthmatic attacks. It will also allow you to better control the fear and panic during an attack, hence significantly reducing the symptoms. Most asthmatics are aware when an attack is imminent, and specific hypnotic techniques exist which enable the asthmatic to completely abort an impending attack.

Asthma is a grave respiratory condition, which can be really disabling and at times even deadly. Drugs can help you with the physiological symptoms and can give quick relief in the case of an attack. However those drugs have many negative side effects, especially when taken too often. Hypnotherapy and NLP can reduce your need for drugs. It is also an effective asthma treatment and asthma attack treatment and will help you prevent the occurrences of asthmatic symptoms.
